UNIQUE - the support group for rare chromosome conditions, (members of the Genetics Alliance UK - previously Genetics Interest Group) has advised us about an exciting new play that is based on the experiences of having a child with a unique condition called Expections which is coming to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year.
After hugely successful premieres in Sweden and in Manchester, The Gothenburg English Speaking Theatre (GEST) will be presenting ‘Expectations’ written by Kristina Branden Whitaker and directed by Gary Whitaker, both Unique member parents, at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 4th- 22nd August 2010 at The Jack Dome Theatre (one of the Pleasance venues).
Expectations is an honest, moving and hard hitting tale of two couples, one English, one Swedish who discover that their babies have a rare chromosome disorder. There are choices to be made, fears and secrets to share. As we follow their different chosen paths the two couples are finally brought together. For more information see www.gest.se, www.pleasance.co.uk Tickets: www.pleasance.co.uk, 0131 5566550
Kristina and Gary hope that the play will also be educational and of possibly some help in raising awareness of rare conditions to a much wider audience. They plan to have information available about Unique for the audiences to read as well. Kristina and Gary say they would love to see friendly faces in Edinburgh. So if you live nearby, or are intending to go to the Fringe Festival then please do support this play and help make it a huge success! |
