NICE: Providing public information to prevent skin cancer |
 |
In 2008 NICE consulted with healthcare professionals and patients groups in respect of the above topic. All responses were collated and the draft guidance was amended to reflect comments made. The work has now reached the next stage and the scope of the guidance for out for consultation. | |
NICE have issued for public consultation
the work they have
commissioned on behalf of the DH to develop public health intervention guidance for the NHS
and local authorities on the prevention of
skin cancer in the general public with specific reference
to:
- provision of information
- physical changes to the environment
- supply of sun protection resources
During the period March - April 2009 the next stage of the consultation process focusses on the provision of information and the Gorlin Syndrome Group has once again been invited to take part in the consultation. Committee members are currently involved in checking our the draft guidance and will be submitting a written response on behalf of those affected by Gorlin Syndrome.
Over the coming months we also expect to be invited to be consulted on the two other topics listed above, physical changes to the environment and the supply of sun protection resources.

The majority of healthcare professionals, cancer charities and patients support groups involved in the first stage of the consultation process were instrumental in ensuring that all aspects of sun protection were included in draft scope guidance. Work is continuing in this area and further information will follow.
