NHS Performance Framework

The guidance sets out how the NHS should run and what are the ways in which under performance will be tackled - by putting it so clearly it provides an extremely useful tool to deal with services that are not providing a good enough services.

The NHS Performance Framework guidance can be accessed here.

The framework clearly outlines that all NHS work needs to be:

Transparent - with clear and pre-determined performance measures and interventions

Consistent - there is a uniform approach across England, at different levels of the system, and across different types of providers

Proactive - thresholds for intervention that identify underperformance at an early stage so that it can be swiftly addressed

Proportionate - intervention will be related to risk, for example, problems at service level will be addressed through interventions at service level

Focussed on recovery - initial interventions will focus on recovery and will include action to address the root causes of issues, including ‘system-level’ risk such as over-capacity

The Skin Care Campaign have been in touch and informed of the recent termination of all secondary care dermatology services in the Pennine Trust.  This may well happen elsewhere meaning that people with skin conditions will have to wait longer for appointments and be left to travel many miles to get any type of  specialist service.

It is vital that if you hear about any adverse developments in service provision you let us know as soon as possible so that we are able to alert the Skin Care Campaign.
